Wi-Bro is hitting the market but costly handsets and high fee charges of access gears making difficult for the adoption of wireless Internet service.
According to industry experts, the value of PCMCIA cards is almost 200,000 and it will go down in this year. Service providers are required to offer a broad range of handsets such as PDAs and PMPs.
The government is considering to discount on prices of wireless Internet with broadband Internet, wireless communication and Internet telephony.
The Ministry of Information and Communication is unveiling the plan to approve the differentiated plans for Wi-Bro.
According to revised law, KT will be able to roll out wireless communication plus Wi-Bro, broadband Internet and Nespot plus Wi-Bro and Internet telephony (VoIP) plus Wi-Bro. If KT Megapass broadband Internet service will offer discount fees to subscribers the market will expand up to 6 million.
With the fall of this, CDMA mobile phones and PDA phones will hit the market. KT is introducing bundling with voice calls in low price.
SK Telecom is not in position to compete with KT, yet if the company offers bundling with 3.5G wireless communications service.
The KT’s Nespot Swing, which combines EVDO with wireless LAN, SK Telecom can bundle HSDPA and Wi-Bro.
They are cautious about expanding Wi-Bro base stations, while aggressively investing in nationwide HSDPA networks.
