Wales has emerged as the most WiFi-enabled country in the UK, with 193 hotspots per million people; the number outclasses other leading countries such as USA, Germany, Japan and obviously England.
According to the latest findings from the apex telecom regulatory body, Ofcom (Office of Communication), the number of WiFi hotspots per million people in England is 171. In Scotland, it is 125 and 84 in Northern Ireland.
When it comes to VoIP, Scotland tops in the UK market. Nearly 19 percent of Scottish makes long distance internet calls. England holds the second place with 18 percent. In Wales, only 16 percent of the population use Internet to make phone calls. The percentage is 15 in Northern Ireland.
Ofcom now claims that the digital divide is lessening in UK with more than 74 percent of the population access to broadband services due to the availability of cheap broadband services because of competition in the local markets.
