Seabird is the first community in Canada to launch a high performance wireless mesh network solutions from Siemens, which provides the high-speed broadband wireless access to support residential, educational and business communication. Siemens and BelAir Networks have partnered with Chief Clem Seymour and local residents of the community to deploy 49 BelAir Networks wireless access nodes across the community. These nodes can easily be mounted on light poles to provide a wireless carrier backbone to support various services including Point of Sale (POS) terminals at the local gas bar and events. Siemen’s new network will help the community to reduce the monitoring cost of flood meter by replacing wired lines with a wireless connection. Even the community may also use the network to extend its Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) network and also provide the cost-effective residential telephone service on Seabird Island. Both companies have also developed a training program to train Seabird Island Band personal to pre-stage, program, install, and administrator and repair the wireless network. This training program will help community to manage and maintain the network independently. Even communities can create jobs and ensure self sufficiency. Chief Clem Seymour, said, Our new wireless network offers a broad range of communications and revenue opportunities for us. We will be able to create new services for the community and offer our local schools increased educational opportunities through new high speed connectivity. Image Credit: Barb Wired Via: TMC Net
