The New South Wales Government has announced that it plans to install a free wireless broadband network throughout the Sydney CBD and other major centers by early 2008.
There are already some hotspots offering free wireless access but those are limited. However the new plan by the NSW is to offer free network through out Sydney and north Sydney plus some additional business districts in Liverpool, Parramatta, Wollongong, Newcastle and Gosford.
Some other major cities of the world already have such plans implemented. Like Google is offering free wireless access to the residents in Mountain View, California and is also partnering Earthlink in San Francisco to offer similar plans.
The Governments plan is expected to compete with other paid wireless providers like Optus and Telstra.
