As a part of its plan to include WiMAX capabilities in mobile phones in the second half of 2008, handset manufacturer, Motorola has launched its first truly mobile WiMAX 802.16e compliant chipset.
Motorola will deliver WiMAX enabled handsets to carriers as it prepares for Sprint and Clearwire’s XOHM WiMAX service. Motorola’s WiMAX chipset is specifically designed for WiMAX wireless wide-area networks.
Motorola has presented a mobile WiMAX experience at the Chicago River for media for media and industry analysts, who experienced uninterrupted internet access for web browsing, VoIP calls, and video streaming in order to prove that mobile WiMAX technology is real and ready for commercial deployment.
Motorola see WiMAX as an alternative of Wi-Fi to deliver data and voice services to mobile devices, like smart phones and handheld computers. The company has tested the hardware of WiMAX chipset in Motorola’s own infrastructure products, as well as equipment from other mobile manufacturers.
Motorola stated that the company is already providing WiMAX infrastructure to 12 commercial systems and has been involved in more than 40 trails worldwide.
