
Malaysia based telecommunications solution provider, Comintel Corporation Bhd has signed a deal with Gupp Technologies Incorporated to manufacture the world’s first Linux based dual mode Wi-Fi centric mobile phone.
The smart phone will use Voice Over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) and GSM networks and allows its users to transfer calls between cellular and Wi-Fi networks. These smartphones would be able to seamlessly switch between Wi-Fi and Standard GS networks facilitated by its Linux system.
Under this agreement, Comintel has acquired a minority stake in Gupp Technologies Incorporated and an exclusive manufacturing contract to develop smart phones.
Lim Keng Hock, managing director of Gupp Technologies, said,
The distribution and marketing rights to the smartphones will help the company with the impetus to expand its current product offering into the Asia Pacific market.

Comintel and Gupp Techologies are hoping, with this new smartphones, both companies to tap into IP smart mobile communication entertainment devices, which would be next big thing for mobile phone technology.
