Intel is chasing the technology with a chipset devices ranging from video games to digital games. Intel is introducing a client chipset which supports both the fixed and mobile versions of the wireless broadband technology known as WiMax.



The WiMax’s, biggest cheerleader, is targeting the devices from video games to digital cameras. It has two versions, which are given below:



i) Fixed Version

ii) Mobile Version



Fixed version: Handily it is known as 802.16d-2004. It is designed for the replacement or supplement for broadband cable access or DSL. The updated version 802.16e-2005, also supports fixed wireless applications. This version is also known as ‘fixed WiMax’ and ‘mobile WiMax’.



Intel is already selling a fixed WiMax chipset called Rosedale. It is used in boxy residential modems. Wireless Communications Association International (WCA) 2006 conference, Intel company unveils Rosedale 2 which the capability of both 802.16d and 802.16e modes.



Intel is also planning to introduce a single-chip radio called Ofer-R, which supports both WiFi and WiMax by the end of this year.

WiMax is making a market internationally. Several wireless, wireline and acble operators have voiced interest in WiMax in US.



Nortel Networks and Motorola, maker of WiMax equipment have been collecting interest from cable providers. WiMax is also a possibility for backhaul technology in municipal WiFi networks.
