Green Wi-Fi, the nonprofit organization is bringing Internet access system in schools of developing countries. Bruce Baikie and Marc Pomerleau are trying to use wireless networks in more friendly way.
The technical concept behind the Green Wi-Fi network is that each network consists of a battery-power router and solar panel to charge the battery. Each node is mounted on rooftops of the building. The Wi-Fi signals are transferred to grid through wireless network standard, known as 802.11b/g.
Both of them decided to deploy Wi-Fi network in developing countries without using electricity. This is great news for developing countries because most of countries are facing a problem of electricity. The main challenge was to develop a solar-powered system, which can work under variable weather conditions, while installing the Green Wi-Fi network system. A commercial solar-based system will run for more than one week without using any source of light.
One Laptop Per Child initiative is funding for this program. The aim of program is to construct $100 laptop to distribute among children of developing countries.
