It seems that Fon will reap the benefits of recent WiFi deal with Time Warner Cable in the long run.

Under the deal, TWC would allow its customers to install Fon wireless access points and offer them free WiFi access. In other words, Fon whose business is mostly concentrated in Europe has now the most potential US market within its reach.

Spanish company Fon sells wireless routers for customers who want to convert their home networks into public WiFi hotspots. In USA, TWC has some 6.6 million residential cable Internet subscribers. Thus, Fon can add them in its Foneros (FON users) community.

Fon’s branded router La Fonera divides a WiFi connection into channels, a secured network for the Foneros and a public network for non-Foneros who are charged $2 or $3 for a day’s access after registering via a web interface. It is free for Foneros.
