According to the Mayor of city, the Paris wants to cover the city with wireless internet to connect the capital with the world by the end of year 2007.

According to this new plan, the city is hoping to set up 400 free Wi-Fi access points and allow internet service providers to install antenna on strategically located public property.

The plan also cut the taxes on companies, which lay down fiber optic cable in approximately 80 percent of all buildings to connected with so-called ‘ultra-high speed’ fiber optic networks by 2010.

License fees would also be cut by 25 percent for fiber optic cables and the tax break would go up to 90 per cent for the first 400 meters of new cable.

The free wireless access points would be located in parks, libraries and public areas. The private firms, which will set up the plan, would be awarded.

The project will also experiment with free Wi-Fi access for an entire city quarter by the end of 2007.
