
Taiwan based largest integrated telecommunications operator, Chunghwa Telecom, has launched ‘Taiwan Mobile Healthcare Services’, which will enable users to use mobile medical care anywhere using a Nortel WiMAX solution. The company has demonstrated these Mobile Healthcare Services at the 2007 Taipei Summit Asia-Pacific WiMAX Conference and Exhibition being held on May 14 to 15 in Taipei.
The first WiMAX healthcare network will provide emergency medical assistance and patient care services whenever it is required outside of a medical facility. Taiwan Mobile Healthcare Services include remote outpatient registration known as Mobile Nurse and, Treatment Assistant, which allows doctors virtual access to a patient’s medical records. Wireless Care Genie is using Bluetooth enabled mobiel devices, which will remotely monitor the condition of long-term suffers of chronic diseases. While Health Care Guru is a virtual heathcare information center. The Mobile Healthcare Services will provide super-fast and high-bandwidth wireless communications through WiMAX technology.

The company has launched the first WiMAX health care network at the Taipei Medical University Hospital, Tri-Service General Hospital and Taipei City-Wan Fang Hospital. Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MoEA) has initiated the project, M-Taiwan and Mobile Healthcare is part of M-Taiwan project. Taiwan government is emphasizing to access mobile for healthcare services throughout the country. Later on the government will launch mobile access services for finance, insurance, security, delivery, distribution and other related medical services.
