
BellSouth announced about the expansion of BellSouth Wireless Broadband Service into five new markets. The company will expand its services in selected parts of Melbourne, Fla.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Greenville, Miss.; Charleston, S.C.; and Albany, Ga.
BellSouth’s wireless broadband service is providing a high-speed Internet access with speed of 1.5Mbps and without any phone line to its residential and business customers. The system transmits signals between local radio towers and a small non-line-of-sight desktop subscriber modem and utilizes BellSouth licensed WCS 2.3GHz spectrum.
The customer who are using BellSouth broadband service have the option to use the service in discount as back up access to the Internet. The customer can also choose the Wi-fi service.
The company has already expanded its service in Athens in 2005. Now the company is planning to expand its service in the end of 2006 in following cities:
1. Palatka
2. New Orleans
3. Gulfport
4. DeLand
The company is going to begin the lab trials of WiMAX using Alcatel’s Evolium WiMAX solution.
