Apple may turn to RFID for easing up the Wi-Fi setup process.

The company has already filed a patent for the device on September 6, 2005 but it was published Thursday for the first time.

This new system works like when a Wi-Fi enabled device containing a synchronized RFID tag comes within the range of the router the RFIS transceiver would automatically transfer the necessary configuration to the tag without having the user to perform the software setup.

The wireless device would not need to be turned in order for the RFID tags to communicate, rather the information will be exchanged through the use of passive RFID tags or help from a separate, smaller power supply. So we can also say that the system will not be a burden on the main power supply of the wireless device.

As soon as the device is powered they will read the information form the RFID tags and will instantly connect to the network.

Such a mechanism will be helpful for all the devices that lack visual display and input components.
