EarthLink, Atlanta-based Company announced that the company has signed up with Time Warner Inc. Internet unit AOL and DirecTV Group Inc. as buyers of Internet services. EarthLink will sell on a wholesale basis to AOL and DiecTV, who will sell it to retail customers.
AOL, the New York based company is gaining at it is now able to reach customers who are going away from AOL dial-up subscriptions. It will also help El Segundo, based DirecTV by complementing TV service with Internet.
EarthLink, announced about this deal in Anaheim while celebrating the first launch of its Wi-Fi network in US. EarthLink is constructing networks in New Orleans, Philadelphia and Milpitas and many more cities.
AOL and DirecTV will offer Wi-Fi subscriptions to all customers where EarthLink builds networks.
EarthLink is planning to sell consumer subscriptions to its EarthLink and PeoplePC Internet service customers. The company announced that they have completed about 20 per cent of Anaheim’s network, which will approximately cover 100,000 households over 49 square miles.
EarthLink is estimating 20-30 percent of subscribers to its networks will be Earthlink retail customers. EarthLink shares closed up 25 cents, or 3.1 percent at $8.35 on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
